Inquizition (A.S.I.A.)

On the night of the 21st May 99, after a mammoth effort from the A.S.I.A. Committee, the annual A.S.I.A. Quiz Night took place - an evening set to blast everyone who attended with joy, laughter and excitement.

UWA's Ref held a greater crowd than expected. More tables were added to accommodate the extras, creating an intimate atmosphere for the 160+ people. The Quiz started with round girls and guys strutting their stuff attracting a major roar, signaling the start of the rounds.

The quiz consisted of 6 rounds with questions on issues such as music, Perth, sex and much more. The most rowdy round would have to be the sex round, with everyone nearly getting all questions right. (I wonder why that is? Heheh..heheh..) Although, strangely enough, the sex questions varied from humans to whales and goldfish.

Throughout the rounds questions ranged from easy to hard, though there were odd strange question about Spice Girls, Southpark and Star Wars (unless you happen to be a fan of one of the above - not that any of those topics attract fanaticism). These consisted of having to work out who was who from sound and video clips.

Zany games kept the excitement and crowd going between rounds, with charades, coke sculling, chilli eating and passing burger-rings with toothpicks - though the guys seem to enjoy making kissy faces at each other while passing their burger-rings.

Many crowd pleasing prizes were given out - from sex toys through to tanning salon vouchers, wine, beauty packs and car accessories, kindly donated by A.S.I.A. sponsors.

Overall, the night was a huge success - anyone who wasn't there should be kicking themselves right now. The next A.S.I.A. function, "Fusion: East meets West" is on at the Paramount on Thursday the 22nd of July.

"Rottnest - Isle Have Some of That" (Leisure)

Stranded on an island with a bunch of alcohol addled incontinent students isn't my idea of fun - but when they exercise adequate bladder control it can really be a blast.1 Take for instance that young man who manufactured explosives from a tennis shoe and a pavlova egg... but for fear of incriminating any individual perhaps that tale is better left untold.

I am not quite sure what made this Rottnest trip different to the countless others I've attended. There were the usual faces and many new ones, acts of senseless hooliganism and bravado, drunkenness, depravity, romance, and one lone , naked figure riding down the street on a ride-on-lawnmower , claiming to be Captain Stupendous.

To sum up Rottnest for anyone who hasn't been there isn't exactly easy. It's an escape from the pressures of university and every day life, a moment of anarchy and freedom where the real world probably won't change much due to momentary insanity. It's the chance to go a little nuts, and maybe that is it's real beauty and the reason I'll probably go back, once again, next time.
